Friends of Cathryn Mother’s Day and Caregiver Bags

What started as a token of friendship…

Mother’s Day 2009 found Susan at Cathryn’s bedside in the ICU at Children’s Hospital Orange County. Cathryn was in the midst of her stem cell transplant which involved a minimum 30 day hospital stay. While Cathryn slept, a lovely cart full of woven bags full of tokens any mother would appreciate, was wheeled around the ICU with a delivery to each mom at their child’s bedside. This bag was the result of Christine Fugate, a friend of Susan’s, who had collected donations and delivered the bags to CHOC for Susan and other Moms for Mother’s Day. In gratitude, beginning in 2010, the Friends of Cathryn Mother’s Day Bags became an annual project for Susan and her loyal friends who gather donations and stuff the bags in late April. These bags are delivered to Mother’s at CHOC, CHLA, UCLA and other area Children’s Hospitals.

The bags are loaded with goodies for Mom and some treats for the child battling cancer.
